D707 is a gravel and sandy track located in southern Namibia, within the Nemtib Desert. The road is 123 km long in the middle of nowhere. This trail passes through remote areas, so you need to be prepared.
Kanaan Desert Retreat is situated on a large unspoilt reserve with contrasting landscapes which borders the Namib Desert to the west and the Tiras Mountains to the east. It provides the perfect stopover when travelling between 2 of Namibia’s most popular and fascinating tourist attractions: the dunes of Sossusvlei and Fish River Canyon. The dedicated team of the retreat focus on the ‘rehabilitation of the land’ to conserve and protect wildlife and the environment. There are 3 major ecosystems surrounding the Kanaan Retreat; sand dunes, open grasslands and mountains. Many desert-adapted species survive here.
A major drawcard of Kanaan is the opportunity to use the retreat as a film location. There are no permit restrictions here which enables production company’s, directors and crews to film wildlife, cheetah and other species of flora and fauna in their natural habitats. All filming activity takes place under the watchful eye of Marlice van Vuuren, one of the country’s most well-know nature conservationists.
Homely meals at the desert retreat are served in the refurbished farmhouse complemented with refreshing wines and cool drinks. The small lounge is ideal for meeting other guests and sharing in their wildlife stories and experiences. An inviting fire-place awaits on those cold Namibian nights. The shady verandah offers an alternative dining area as well as a scenic venue for after dinner drinks and sundowners.

all overlook a stunning and diverse landscape which captures the beauty and tranquillity of the desert. Individual shower and toilets are standard.
The property is home to free-roaming kudu, ostrich, oryx, caracal, hyena, mountain zebra, springbok and jackal. Fences between Kanaan and the Namib Naukluft park are being removed to allow wildlife to freely roam between the property and the massive adjoining park
All activities will be conducted under the supervision of experienced and knowledgeable guides and where applicable in open-sided safari vehicles.
Farm Namtib is situated at the edge of the Namib Desert in the Tiras Mountains. It is a privately owned biosphere reserve, covering an area of some 16, 400ha. Farming and human activities are adapted here, to suit Southern Namibia’s arid climate. The fascinating landscape of the farm, offers an abundance of breathtaking views and hosts a wealth of fauna and flora.
Namtib Biosphere Reserve is situated on one of the most scenic routes in southern Namibia. The farm is ideally located between Fish River Canyon and Sossusvlei / Sesriem or Lüderitzbucht and Sossusvlei / Sesriem.
The Namtib Biosphere Reserve, allows guests to relax and unwind, whilst at the same time having the opportunity to get to know how a typical Namibian farm operates. Here you can discover a mine of interesting information about the Namib Desert, the Tiras Mountains and the fauna and flora of Southern Namibia.
There is a dining room and reception in the main building. Although there is no bar, guests can order drinks from here. A set menu for breakfast, lunch and dinner is provided and vegetarians can be catered for.
Namtib Desert Lodge provides typical farmstyle service, all under the auspices of the Theile family .
Accommodation is in separate bungalows. A tea & coffee facility is available in the hall. Overnight in:
• Double Rooms: An en-suite bathroom, twin beds and mosquito nets are standard.
• Single Rooms: 2 Single Rooms have their own bathroom and facilities similar to the Double Rooms.
• Family Room: 1 Family Room has twin beds for the adults and bunk beds for the children. The facilities are similar to the Single/Double Rooms.
Activities offered at Namtib Desert Lodge include afternoon nature drives, guided hiking trails and bird watching.

Koiimasis Ranch – In the midst of the Tiras Mountains, and on the edge of the Namib Desert is picturesquely surrounded by red shining granite rocks. The name “Koiimasis” means “meeting point” and comes from the San people (bushmen) who lived here in former times. The landscape varies from desert to quiver tree forest and may be explored by car, on foot or on horseback.
Nearly every day ends with an impressive sunset, followed by an unforgettably clear, nocturnal starlit sky. No light pollution here! This is the best place to relax for a few days when travelling between Sossusvlei and Luderitz.
