You will be more confident in your driving skills and can look forward to a memorable adventure over the next few days.
Safari Hotel – Lunch

Day 2 / 500 kmDAMARALAND

Day 3 & 4 / 500 kmDAMARALAND

Our first adventure takes us to the far northwestern area of Namibia to our first accommodation. After check in, a guide will give us a first encounter with the Ovahimba culture. In the evening we will have the rare pleasure of joining the Ovahimba in their traditional village.

Day 3 & 4 / 500 kmKAOKOLAND & EPUPA FALLS

Our road takes us further north in the direction of Opuwo. We continue northward to the Epupa Falls where we will spend 2 nights. We visit authentic Himba settlements in the area and learn about their culture and tradition.
Omarunga Campsite – Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 5 / 150 kmVAN ZYL’S PASS

Today’s route takes us over some very rugged terrain via Okangwati and Etengwa towards the infamous van Zyl’s Pass. We set up camp in the area around Otjitanda, depending on the distance covered during the day, some stretches allowing us a speed of no more than 10km/h. At the Ovahimba settlement of Otjitanda we may be able to replenish our water supply from the only water point in this entire part of Kaokoland.
Van Zyl’s Pass Campsite – Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 6 & 7 / 100 kmVAN ZYL’S PASS & MARIENFLUSS

We continue very careful and under close adherence to the instructions given by the guide are necessary to navigate todays stretch of road without incident. It is a rocky descent and not easy to drive in anyone’s books, but with patience, we will reach the bottom some time later. We continue in a northerly direction in the Marienfluss valley, travelling between magnificent mountain ranges, some of the scenery giving way to large stretches of grassland interspersed with red sand and the unique Namibian “Fairy Circles”. Our day ends at Camp Synchro, situated along the banks of the mighty Kunene River.
Camp Synchro – Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 8 / 200 kmPURROS

After breakfast our route takes us out of the Marienfluss valley via Rooidrom (red drum) in the direction of Orupembe. Red drum is possibly the most famous as it used to be adorned by an old telephone set (not in use, obviously). The area traveled in today may present us with chance encounters of rare and endangered animal species such as the unique and specially adapted desert elephant, black rhino and lion, while Springbuck, Oryx antelope, Giraffe and Zebra are more regularly seen. In the afternoon we set up camp in the Orupembe or Purros area.
Purros Campsite – Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 9 / 135 kmKHOWARIB GORGE

We continue via the Hoarusib River to the oasis of Sesfontein, where we finally get the chance to refuel and stock up on diminishing supplies! Visiting the spectacular Khowarib Gorge, incised deeply into the rock by the Hoanib River, we continue to Ongongo Falls. Here we have the chance to cool off in the crystal clear water of a deep pool below the falls, which after good rains may actually turn into a real waterfall. Suitably refreshed, we camp at Ongongo for the night.
Ongongo Campsite – Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 10 / 250 kmHUAB RIVERBED

We continue our journey further south to reach the Huab Riverbed. Here we can put our sand-driving skills to the test after days of rocky terrain. At De Riet, the junction of the Huab and Aba – Huab riverbeds, we search the soft sand for signs of the unique desert elephant. A chance encounter with a herd is a very special experience that will etch itself into our memories forever. We continue to the Twyfelfontein area, where our campsite is situated close to this world heritage site. It offers spectacular vistas from the top of a granite mountain, from where we enjoy a much-deserved sundowner drink in the late afternoon.
Mowani Campsite – Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 11 / 250 kmTWYFELFONTEIN & ERONGO REGION

After breakfast, we visit the rock engravings at the world heritage site of Twyfelfontein, the largest open-air museum in southern Africa. This rock art, consisting mostly of rock engravings, was applied to the red sandstone boulders of the area thousands of years ago by the indigenous population of the time. After a visit of the Living Museum of the Damara, we continue to the Erongo Mountains. Our route continues to Ai – Aiba Lodge, where we have the option of enjoying a sundowner drive in an open 4×4 vehicle onto a hill overlooking the spectacular surroundings of the largest volcanic skeleton on earth.
Ai-Aiba Rockpainting Lodge – Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 12 / 300 kmDEPARTURE

After a hearty breakfast, we drive back to Windhoek via private farmland and the towns of Omaruru and Okahandja. Having arrived in the capital city, our adventure ends.
