Itinerary

Day 1Windhoek – Etosha National Park

Depart at around 08:30 towards Okahandja, Otjiwarongo and Outjo to the famous Etosha National Park, where we’ll undertake our first game drive. The Park is well known for its huge herds of antelope and zebra. We shall try and stay inside the Etosha National Park: Okaukuejo or Halali. If this is not possible we shall stay in a lodge right outside the Andersson’s Gate.
Superior Version: Overnight with dinner, bed and breakfast at Okaukuejo, Halali Resort or similar.
Standard Version: Overnight with half board just outside Etosha/ Toshari lodge or similar.

Day 2Etosha National Park

A full day in the Park lies ahead of us. Except for the rainy season, Etosha’s animals are depending on artificial waterholes and natural springs. Explore the various waterholes along this enormous saltpan, which is called the “great white place of dry water” in a local language. More than 114 mammal species are found in the Park. With a bit of luck we have the chance to encounter some big mammals like elephant and rhino as well as the fearsome predators like lion and cheetah.
Superior Version: Overnight with dinner, bed and breakfast at Okaukuejo, Halali Resort or similar.
Standard Version: Overnight with half board just outside Etosha/ Toshari lodge or similar.

Day 3Etosha National Park - Swakopmund

After breakfast and a brief game-drive in the early morning hours, we’ll leave the Park and head towards Omaruru, where we’ll visit the Kristall Kellerei for a wine tour and lunch (included). Onward drive to the premier coastal holiday resort: Swakopmund. The rest of the afternoon is at leisure. You might want to go for a walk in the city or at the beach. Swakopmund has plenty of excellent restaurants – the choice is yours. Dinner in Swakopmund is on your own account.
Superior Version: Overnight on a bed and breakfast basis at the Hansa Hotel or similar.
Standard Version: Overnight with bed and breakfast at Pension Rapmund or similar

Day 4Swakopmund

The whole morning in Swakopmund is at leisure. You may want to join one of the activities, like quad-biking or sand-boarding in the dunes just outside Swakopmund. (These activities are excluded – but you can book them in advance or your guide will assist you to do the reservation). During the afternoon your guide will take you to the highlights of the Namib Desert: the

Day 5Swakopmund – Namib Desert

This morning we shall drive along the coastline to the harbor town Walvis Bay. We will participate in a catamaran boat trip on the beautiful lagoon in Walvis Bay. Often these cruises are accompanied by dolphins and seals. Enjoy the prolific birdlife with pelicans and flamingos! Snacks and a variety of beverages are offered and included on board the boat. We depart at around 13:00 from Walvis Bay, drive through the Namib Desert, the Kuiseb and the Gaub Pass and arrive at the beautifully set Namib Naukluft Lodge during the late afternoon.
Superior Version: Overnight on a dinner, bed and breakfast basis at Namib Naukluft Lodge.
Standard Version: Overnight with half board at Soft Adventure Camp

Day 6Namib Desert

An early morning rise with a snack before leaving enables you to arrive at Sesriem, the Park’s gate at around sunrise. The route leads along and also across the Tsauchab dry riverbed, which has found a way through the dunes until it reaches the claypan – the Sossusvlei. After a good rainy season – about every 7 to 10 years – the Tsauchab River runs in full flood and fills the Vlei with water. For months it remains here and offers sensational scenery with a prolific birdlife.
The early morning sun offers spectacular pastel colours in the star-shaped dunes. This is the highlight for the keen photographer. Your first stop will be at Dune 45 before we continue to the Sossusvlei. Climb one of the dunes – there are plenty – and you might be overwhelmed by the sight of the dynamic and living desert!
Breakfast will be served in form of a picnic under one of the shady camelthorn trees, before you continue to the base of the ‘Dead Vlei’. It is quite a walk over patches of dunes that are crossing your way. When you arrive you will be paid off for your efforts – the scenery is awesome!
We will visit the Sesriem Canyon, a 30 metre deep rift, before we return to our base: Namib Naukluft Lodge for a late lunch. During the late afternoon a sunset-drive to the natural marble mountains on this 25,000 ha private nature reserve is included.
Superior Version: Overnight on a full board basis at Namib Naukluft Lodge.
Standard Version: Overnight on a full board basis at Soft Adventure Camp
